I dyed my hair red! help!?

well, my hair was originally brown, like a dirty blonde i guess. anyway, i dyed it a "dark auburn" and i like it, it looks good in DIM light, at school, the fluorescent's make my hair look like a purple red. i dont really care, but i got made fun of, teased, laughed at ALL day, and it really hurt. any advice? :(
