Can a 5 quart Crock-Pot be used on 3 quart recipes?

I have never used a slow cooker in my life and i just purchased my first. I also purchased a Slow Cookers recipe for 2 cookbook. Most of the recipes in the book call for a 1 1/2 quart to 4 quart slow cooker. I have no idea as to whether i should return mine for a smaller Crock-Pot or if it will be ok to use the 5 quart for the recipes.
