A victory for Sir Alex Ferguson?

The situation has been blown up by the press. Ronaldo has never publicly said he wants to leave and Real Madrid have never made a financial offer. The political nature of the ownership of Real Madrid means that the president has to look as if he is after the best all the time - but they do not have the financial clout that they used to have so are rarely able to back it up with a cash offer. United have handled themselves with dignity in this instance ( although I appreciate that they are equally guilty of trying to unsettle players occasionally) and this statement will hopefully be the end of the matter.
